Fly the F-16 in your browser

A single-engine fighter with afterburner: it rolls in an instant and climbs straight up.

The simulator opens in its hangar, the first step: pick the F-16 there with the arrows or its silhouette. There is no link straight to one aircraft.

The F-16 in figures

The figures the simulator's hangar shows for the F-16, the numbers it keeps for the aircraft: speeds in knots, heights in feet.

The cockpit

A head-up display, two multifunction displays and the data entry display, the side stick and the throttle on the consoles, and the ejection seat. The instruments are drawn live as you fly, and what you move moves in the cockpit too, from the side stick to the pedals.

How it flies

The F-16 flies with JSBSim, the open-source flight dynamics of FlightGear, running FlightGear's own files for this aircraft, compiled to WebAssembly so it runs in your browser. On top, the controls answer like a game: each stick asks for a rate of turn, and when you let go the aircraft stays where you left it, nose, bank and heading.

In the simple scheme a coach tells you each step, from the takeoff flaps to the flare, and calls the rotation at 155 kt.

Where to fly it

Once the F-16 is yours, fly it from Hong Kong International, which is free, or from any airport you have unlocked. With All Access every aircraft and every airport are open.

Some airports with a page of their own:

What it costs

Unlock the F-16 once for $4.49 and it is yours to keep, or take three unlocks for $10.99 to spend on any aircraft or airport. All Access opens every aircraft and every airport from $7.50 a month, billed yearly.

Questions about the F-16

Is the F-16 free to fly?

No: it is one of the paid aircraft. Unlock it once for $4.49 and it is yours to keep, or fly it with All Access. The Cessna 172 at Hong Kong is free, to try the simulator first.

What speeds does the simulator use for the F-16?

The hangar gives it a cruise of 480 kt at 30,000 ft and an approach speed of 145 kt, and the coach calls the rotation at 155 kt.

Does the F-16 fly with real flight dynamics?

Yes: JSBSim, the flight dynamics of FlightGear, with FlightGear's own files for it. The controls answer like a game on top of it, so a first flight is easy.
