Cookie policy

Open Flight World uses very few cookies, and none for advertising. Most of what it keeps in your browser is there to make the site and the simulator work: keeping you signed in, remembering your language and your settings. The only thing that depends on your choice is a random visitor id for measuring, which is only created if you press Accept.
Your choice
The first time you visit, a banner asks whether you accept the visitor id. Accept and Reject are equally easy, and rejecting changes nothing about what you can do. You can change your mind at any time with the Cookies link at the bottom of every page, which opens the banner again. Choosing Reject also deletes the visitor id if it existed.
You can also delete everything from your browser's settings (site data for openflightworld.com).
Cookies
| Name | What it is for | How long | Kind |
|---|---|---|---|
ofw_sid | Keeps you signed in to your account | 30 days, renewed as you use it | Strictly necessary |
ofw_amg | Ties a sign-in code to the browser that asked for it, so a code cannot be used elsewhere | About 20 minutes | Strictly necessary |
Both are first-party, only readable by my server (HttpOnly), sent only over secure connections in production, and only set when you sign in.
Cloudflare, which delivers and protects the site, may set a strictly necessary security cookie (such as __cf_bm) to tell people from automated traffic. When you pay, Freemius's checkout, on its own website, may use its own cookies under its own policy.
Browser storage
Besides cookies, the site and the simulator keep a few things in your browser's local storage (which lasts until you clear it) and session storage (which disappears when you close the tab). None of it is sent anywhere unless described here.
| Name | Where | What it is for | Kind |
|---|---|---|---|
ofw_consent | Local storage | Remembers your choice in the banner | Strictly necessary |
ofw_lang | Local storage | Remembers your language, so you are not redirected again | Functional |
ofw_vid | Local storage | A random visitor id for measuring, only after you accept | Analytics, with consent |
open-flight-world | Local storage | The simulator's settings: language, graphics and controls | Functional |
ofw_ent | Local storage | A copy of what your account owns, so the simulator starts without waiting | Functional |
ofw_sid | Session storage | A random number that puts the steps of one visit in order; gone when the tab closes | Measuring without identifiers |
ofw_n, ofw_offer, ofw_gate, ofw_ret | Session storage | The number of events sent in this visit, the prices shown, the language redirect done once, and a purchase waiting for you to sign in | Strictly necessary |
What I measure
The site and the simulator send me short, first-party events (a page was opened, a button was pressed, a flight started) without your name, your e-mail or your IP address. With the visitor id, I can also tell that two visits came from the same browser. The privacy policy explains this in detail.
